What we can check
Blood pressure, blood glucose and cholesterol, all done in store. Blood pressure is free and takes a couple of minutes at the counter or in the consultation room. Glucose and cholesterol use a finger-prick sample and have a small fee.
You get the numbers, and more usefully, you get a pharmacist explaining what they mean for you specifically. If a result warrants a GP visit, we will say so clearly and help you understand the urgency.
Why bother
High blood pressure has no symptoms until it causes damage. Neither does high cholesterol, and early type 2 diabetes can go unnoticed for years. A two-minute check while you are in the shop anyway is the cheapest early warning system there is.
If you already take blood pressure medicine, come in and get checked whenever you are passing. Tracking the number over time tells your GP far more than one reading in a clinic on a stressful morning.
Also in store
Medicine reviews over the counter, sleep apnoea referral advice, weight and height measurement, and a pharmacist who will happily look at whatever you have found on your arm before you spend a fortnight worrying about it. We serve Annandale, Leichhardt, Camperdown and Forest Lodge, seven days.
Common questions
In-Store Health Checks: questions we get asked
Do I need to book a blood pressure check?
No. Walk in any time we are open and ask. It takes about two minutes.
Is the blood pressure check free?
Yes, blood pressure is free. Blood glucose and cholesterol testing carry a small fee, quoted before we start.
Do I need to fast for a cholesterol check?
For the most useful result, yes, ideally come in before eating. Tell us if you have eaten and we will interpret the result accordingly.
What if my reading is high?
One high reading is not a diagnosis. We will usually re-check, look at the pattern, and tell you plainly whether it warrants a GP appointment and how soon.
Can you check my child?
For blood pressure, yes. For blood tests, a GP is the right place for children.
