Just drop in

Our baby scales are free to use, seven days a week, and you do not need to book. Come in, and one of our team will weigh your baby and write the weight in your blue book. If you want to weigh before and after a feed, that is completely fine too. We are not going to hurry you.

There is room for the pram, and if you need a quiet corner for a few minutes, ask. Plenty of Annandale and Forest Lodge parents drop in weekly between health nurse appointments just for the reassurance of a number.

What we can and cannot tell you

We can give you an accurate weight and note it down. We can talk about settling, reflux, wind, nappy rash, teething and what is safe to give an infant. We can also tell you when something is worth a call to your child and family health nurse, your GP or the midwife.

What we will not do is interpret growth percentiles or make a call on feeding adequacy. That is your health nurse’s and GP’s job, and they have your full history. We are the practical, close-to-home step in between.

A pharmacy that is used to babies

Our pharmacists are the ones parents come to at 5:45pm with a grizzly baby and a question. We stock the practical infant range, we will always tell you when a product is not necessary, and there is no charge for weighing, ever.

While you are in, we also do walk-in vaccinations for the rest of the family.

Common questions

Free Baby Weighing: questions we get asked

Do I need to book to weigh my baby?

No. Come in any time we are open and someone will help you.

Is there a charge?

None. Baby weighing is free at Annandale Village Pharmacy.

Can you tell me if my baby is gaining enough weight?

We will give you an accurate weight and note it in your blue book, but interpreting growth over time is for your child and family health nurse or GP, who know the full picture.

Can I do a before-and-after feed weigh?

Yes. Take as long as you need. There is space and no queue for the scales.

What are your quietest times?

Mid-morning on weekdays is usually calmest. Late afternoons are busiest.
