Why Aventus has the reputation it does

Smoky pineapple. That is the shorthand, and it undersells it. Aventus opens fruity and bright, then birch and musk pull it into something drier and more expensive smelling. It has been the standard reference for a confident office fragrance since 2010, which is exactly why it gets searched for as a dupe more than almost anything else.

A 100ml bottle runs to about $559 in Australia. Plenty of people try it on a friend’s wrist, love it, and quietly decide they are never spending that.

What we recommend instead

Evrland Legacy takes the same fruity-smoky path. The pineapple is a touch sweeter and the birch note is softer, so it comes across a little friendlier and slightly less sharp than the original. The overall impression, particularly after the first half hour, is close enough that people who know Aventus tend to ask what you are wearing.

Worth knowing

Aventus is famous for batch variation, so even the real thing does not smell identical bottle to bottle. If you have worn a batch you loved, bring your wrist in and compare rather than going off a review.
